Wonderland is an an ongoing series of portraits by UK photographer, Kirsty Mitchell.
After her mother’s death, Mitchell began to fill the vacancy of devasting loss by re-creating the fairy tales her mother told to her as a child. These elaborate portraits encompass the emptiness and devastation of loss while painting a dreamy visual narrative. Everything in the photos have been meticulously and painstakingly done by hand, taking more than 5 months to prepare. Every embellishment, crafted and created for the scene. The elaborate photo-shoots took place around her home in the woodlands. This beautiful tribute was born from grief and nostalgia. But the two are always intertwined, no?
