Opening the show of this week’s Twilight was locally-based band, The Aces. They’re an up and coming all-girl band from Orem, Utah with a big sound and presence. It was clear to see how impressed the crowd was with them-they’re ease on stage was incredibly covetable for such a new band. It was cool to see how much fun they were having in addition to how they have already started building up a loyal fan base. The night’s performance was definitely just the start of an exciting future for them.
Shannon and the Clams, our second opener from Oakland, was one of the most enjoyable bands to have watched this year so far. They showed an undeniable talent in regards to their onstage presence and overall musicianship. It was clear in the beginning of their set that not many people in the crowd were familiar with them, but at the end that definitely did not matter. Their music is just all-around enjoyable and fun to interact with. Their talent mixed with their carefree demeanor made for a rich set that surely resonated with everyone in attendance.
Our headliner for the night, Jenny Lewis, is already known for her long-standing music career and talent. She gracefully took the stage and opened with a song from her band, Rilo Kiley, which seemed to be one of her more familiar hits with the crowd. As she continued her set, she laughed and interacted with her audience-making the vibe feel more intimate and comfortable. It almost felt as if the show was taking place in a smaller, cozier venue with the gap between performer and audience member much smaller. Jenny, as well as her band, did an incredible job of slowing down the night without making it lifeless. The talent of the entire night truly added up to make for a satisfying night out as the summer slowly starts to wind down.
