Artist of the Week: Soljee Lee.
Korean born artist, Soljee Lee has gorgeously wild style. She went to school in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Illustration program but she has also been recently branching out into Graphic Design and has had an affinity for Hermes and Saint Laurent.
Why did you start Illustration?
Out of opportunity, necessity, dream job…? Out of boredom and insecurities about my life. I had a different job before that was decent and I was able to afford to support myself, nevertheless, I felt overwhelmed with the vast amounts of time left for the rest of my life that I didn’t know what to do with and it felt empty.
Then one day I remembered that I used to want to be a designer when I was little so I decided to go back to school and try it out. I majored in illustration because I didn’t know much about other majors. I just knew that illustration had something to do with drawing, so I chose that.
Did you have to give anything up to pursue illustration?
A lot of sleep.
Are you close with your family?
Yes! The only people that will make me not to be so selfish.
Animal I Would Want to Be Most:
As cliche as it might be, a cat.
Dream Tattoo:
White tattoo of a cross or a set of numbers that is significant to me.
Last Great Book I Read:
Perfume by Patrick Suskind.
My Dream Collaboration:
Thom Browne.
Favorite Song of All Time:
As I near thirty by Gwang-Suk Kim (a Korean song from a Korean singer-songwriter) – The first and the last song I ever cried over.
If you could tell everyone in the world something, what would it be?
Cheers!
